Austin Attorney Brad Heilman Joins CLEAT Legal Division

In a powerhouse legal maneuver, the largest law enforcement labor union in Texas announced merger of legal operations and representation with the Heilman Law firm in Austin.
The Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, or CLEAT, announces Criminal Attorney Brad Heilman will assume a new role as Criminal Defense Lead Attorney and Central Texas Staff Attorney officing out of the CLEAT State Headquarters in downtown Austin.
“We are proud to announce that Brad Heilman will join the CLEAT Legal team, working directly with General Counsel Robert Leonard. He will also serve Central Texas CLEAT members on disciplinary cases as well as criminal, adding a new level of continuity and expertise to the team,” said Jennifer Szimanski, Deputy Executive Director.
Heilman served in the United States Army for seven years before joining the Austin Police Department, where he served as a Senior Police Officer for five years. In 2011, Brad graduated from the Baylor School of Law and has represented police officers across Central Texas for the past 13 years.
“Our officers deserve the best legal representation available, and Brad is well equipped with the reputation, experience, and hardcore integrity to fight for our members from internal affairs all the way to the courtroom,” said CLEAT Executive Director Charley Wilkison. “Brad will fit right in here where we don’t run scared, we don’t back down, and we never sell out our members to the politicians.”
