ACT4SA Files False Ethics Complaint Against SAPOA
For Immediate Release
February 14, 2023
AUSTIN — In a frantic effort to obtain more press coverage, the anti-police group, ACT4SA, has fraudulently and frivolously filed a false ethics complaint against the brave men and women of the San Antonio Police Officers’ Association.
“This is just another George Soros-funded lie. These folks don’t understand the ethics laws of Texas or required filings of Specific Purpose PACs, and they’ve never cared about the truth,” said Charley Wilkison, Executive Director of CLEAT.
Part of ACT4SA’s claim is that the Direct Campaign Expenditures (DCE) Campaign Finance Report filed by SAPOA violated the Texas Ethics Commission law. However, their understanding of the law as it pertains to this filing is flawed. The Ethics Commission clarifies filing requirements as: “A DCE report is only required if you have reportable DCE activity during a reporting period…DCE filers are not required to file a campaign treasurer appointment and are not subject to ongoing reporting requirements.”1
“Two years ago, ACT4SA’s negative, hateful campaign against the families of San Antonio law enforcement was uncovered by the voters and publicly defeated. Now, two years later, they are desperately seeking traction and relevance,” Wilkison states. “Their entire complaint is either a shrill empty news release based on ignorance or a carefully crafted lie.”
